Tubal sterilization
Tubal Sterilization (aka "getting your tubes tied" or "tubal
ligation") is a permanent form of birth control for women. It’s
a surgical operation that closes off the fallopian tubes, where an egg
is fertilized by a sperm. When the tubes are closed by sterilization,
sperm cannot reach the egg, and pregnancy cannot happen.
The surgery is performed at a surgery center by a Planned Parenthood physician
and is typically on an outpatient basis. Medical visits before and after
the surgery are done at one of our clinics.
Many health insurance plans cover tubal sterilization, and services are
available at low cost to women who are uninsured or under-insured.
