Prenatal services
A successful pregnancy means getting prenatal care as early as possible.
Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties can help.
Here are some of our prenatal services:
• Check-ups once or more a month throughout your entire pregnancy
• Tests to check your health and the health of your baby
• Nutritional guidance
• Information about where to get financial help (like CalWORKs),
health insurance (like Medi-Cal or Healthy Families), and food programs
(like WIC or food banks)
We offer:
• Classes and one-on-one visits on pregnancy, childbirth, baby
care and breastfeeding.
• Help with quitting smoking, drinking, or using drugs.
• Personal counseling.
Your first visit will include:
• Medical history and physical exam—You will be asked about
your health and any symptoms or problems you may be having, and a maternity
care clinician will give you a complete physical (including a breast
and pelvic) exam.
• Lab tests—Some tests will be needed during your first
visit. They may include:
Blood tests
Urine tests
Pap tests
STD tests
Special tests for certain conditions—like sickle cell anemia,
Tay Sachs, Gauchers, Etc.
Warning signs—call the clinic right
away if you have:
• Bad headaches
• Swelling of the face, hands, feet or ankles
• Vomiting for 24 hours
• Vaginal bleeding
• Dimness or blurring of the vision
• Double vision and/or dizziness
• Spots before your eyes
• Sudden gush or steady trickle of watery fluid from the vagina
• Burning or discomfort with urination
• Fever or chills
• Suspected labor
• Abdominal pain that lasts or keeps coming back
• Rashes or sores
• Fainting or loss of consciousness
• Decreasing or no fetal movement after 24 weeks.
