H.O.T. Spot
The H.O.T. Spot Program in the city of San Bernardino incorporates education,
outreach, family involvement, community leaders and educational goal-setting.
We have partnered with the Young Visionaries Youth Leadership Academy
(YVYLA) which is located in census tract 54, a designated “hot spot”
with a teen birth rate of 127 teen births per 1000 females aged 15 –
19.
H.O.T. Spot will provide comprehensive reproductive health and youth development
education to young African American and Latino youth in the city of San
Bernardino. The program is provided in the form of rap sessions, held
twice a week for 16 weeks. Young people will also participate in speaker
bureaus with distinguished community leaders and a family field trip to
local colleges and universities. Participants receive a certificate of
completion at the end of the program.
Rap Session topics include:
• Understanding HIV and AIDS
• Effective communication and listening skills
• Healthy and unhealthy relationships
