Entre Mujeres / Among Women Promotora Program

The Promotoras Program is an education and outreach program in which adult women share information about reproductive health, sexuality and Planned Parenthood services with other women. These women are called promotoras (“promoters”) because they promote the health and well-being of their local communities.

At the heart of the Promotoras Program are interactive, peer-to-peer outreach sessions called platicas ("small talks"). Promotoras coordinate and conduct platicas in participant's home or in other familiar settings.

Promotoras are trained to:

• Provide accurate, culturally appropriate health information

• Provide information in Spanish or English

• Conduct street outreach

• Arrange and conduct talks with their peers
