Below is a sample letter:

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,

I urge you to consider the vastly negative effects that your proposed Budget Balancing Reductions would have on Planned Parenthood health centers and the patients they serve.

I am concerned about the current proposals because they would:

Institute an across-the-board 10 percent cut in Medi-Cal
Delay reimbursement payments to safety-net clinics for five whole weeks
Cut teen pregnancy prevention program budgets by 10 percent
Require Medi-Cal recipients to prove eligibility four times - each year!

These cuts and delays could force clinics to shut their doors! They would also leave millions of federal dollars on the table. For every dollar California spends on family planning today, the state gets a $9 federal match. In this time of fiscal emergency, our state cannot afford to lose any of this important federal assistance.

Cuts in pregnancy prevention funds will also force us to greatly reduce or eliminate teen pregnancy prevention programs altogether. California has been a leader in reducing teen pregnancy rates. This would be a huge step backward.

These proposed cuts do not make fiscal sense and don't reflect California's values. For these reasons, I oppose the proposed Budget Balancing Reductions and urge you to reconsider.
