Message from the CEO

In 1965 a small group of Orange County women, dedicated to providing access to family planning services and health education, founded Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties. While much has changed in the forty years since then, the principles that guided our founders remain as strong, and just as important, today.

Orange and San Bernardino Counties have developed enormously in forty years and the population growth, demographic diversity, and cultural complexity have required continuing expansion and evolution at Planned Parenthood. Thanks to the commitment of our supporters, Planned Parenthood has grown along with our community, meeting the changing needs with high quality, low to no cost reproductive health care services, educational programming, and public advocacy.

In just the last ten years, our patient base has more than doubled, with an average of 8% growth each year. As we have grown we have expanded our scope of services to include HIV testing, vasectomy, Colposcopy, and medication abortion, in addition to offering all FDA approved methods of birth control. In the same period, our Health Education Department has grown by almost 150%, adding a great variety of programs, utilizing technology and creativity to reach young people and their families with comprehensive, straightforward information about sexuality and reproductive health. We can still pride ourselves on having the only reproductive health hotline in California and the only teen chat room in the nation dedicated to comprehensive health education.

The continued success of our donor-led fundraising event, the Haute Wired Ball, as well as the ongoing support of hundreds of donors, supported the growth of existing programs and the birth of new initiatives. In the pages of this report you will read about new Medical Centers in Santa Ana and Westminster, expanded hours at all of our centers, and an increase in the number of patients served in San Bernardino. We have also highlighted the accomplishments of our health education and public policy programs. We are thankful to our donors who made these expansions possible.

We’re proud to share the accomplishments of this year and our forty-year history in this special annual report. It illustrates the profound impact Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties has had on this community over the past four decades. We could not do it without you.
